There are stories that are addicting and stories that you can read at your leasure. My quest for the past several years has been to find out exactly what makes those stories different.
One of things I have discovered is this:
Opening lines are the shiny bait that catches people. A good opening line (or lines) will have the auidence feeding from your hand.
For example:
Friday by Robert Heinlin
"As I left the Kenya Beanstalk he was right on my heels. He followed me through the door to Customs, Health, and Immigration. As the door contracted behind him I killed him."
The Barbed Coil by JV Jones:
"He who would be king ran naked through the woods."
Now that brings us to my challenge. Write one to three opening sentences that make us want to read more.
