That's a very good point actually.
I reckon each one is on a different plane. |

Actually, the name of the site came from my initials. It also was considered to be "Secret Sanctum" and a few others.
Sorry, no mystery. But I suppose I could register all of them and redirect them and confuse people |

If u wanted your initials, how come it isn't Sixth Sanctum? Or Seventeeth Sanctum? Or even Six hundred and fifty second Sanctum?

Because "Seven" is sorta mystcal sounding?
I'd really like a more serious explanation but . . . thats it. Oh, also the fact is the name is "cool" means I could have used it for many projects. |

LIES!
LIES AND TRICKERY! It's a cover up! Here's the real story... The First Sanctum came into being some four thousand years in the past, on a small, inconspicuous island somewhere in the Mediterranean. Built by the Prophet Stivestos as a neutral centre of learning and creativity, it was a marvelous place in purpose, (though the construction was particularly shoddy, it was made of sandstone by cheap immigrated slave labour, and every time it rained bits of it washed away). Regardless of how it looked, philosophers and scholars the world (or at least, the nearby countries) round arrived to discuss and theorise and create. Everything went swimmingly until during one particularly good party, one of the younger scholars got rip roaring drunk, went out onto the front lawn and gave the gods the big finger. A particularly irate deity of lightning smote the place into oblivion seconds later. Which is the story of the first Sanctum... |

... Oho...
The Second Sanctum was constructed a little while later, funded mostly by the proceeds from the fire insurance which the scholars had been clever enough to invest in - although since slaves work for free, this cost was minimal anyway. Due to the unhappy demise of the original island in one of the Mediterranean's famous earthquakes, it was built in a safer place - in the hilly country of Northern Greece. Built in the classical style and commisioned by Stavros the Precocious (a direct descendant of Stivestos), it enjoyed a golden age of unsurpassed knowledge that was only cut short when the Romans invaded and stole their ideas and renamed them to fit their own purposes. The Sanctum itself was broken into blocks and used in the construction of a new, state-of-the art arena for chubby, pompous Romans to watch gladiators being disembowelled in. Stavros spent the resat of his life in severe, chronic depression, until he was killed by a Roman soldier after arguing with him over the correct way to spell "sestertii". Which is the story of the Second Sanctum... |
