The images have very little to do with the article, but man are they ever frabjous. ADDED: Disappointingly short Wiki entry on John Murray Spear, but a much better one that curiously seems to say nothing much about the New Messiah. Now I am thoroughly intrigued. ADDED AGAIN: Aha! The Fortean Times pulls through. I could've sworn I posted something about him a couple months back when I discovered him- if I didn't, then I thoroughly apologize. It was cruel to deprive the sanctum of something so awesome. Fascinating story, really - a blend of truly avant-garde steampunk (hell, almost cyberpunk) technotheism and a peculiarly Americanized sort of spirit-channeling that I don't think I've ever come across before. Posts: 2885 (05/16/08 21:58:20) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I read about this in an extensive article in Fortean times - and it is fascinating to see the intersection of steampunk and theism - almost a kind of techno-magic out of Warhammer 40K. However the article also made another point - the mechanical messiah is ALSO a kind of folk art, as strange as it may seem. And thus, a truly original piece of work of truly original people. And of course one could argue they foresaw the idea of AI, transhumanism, and minds on the internet way, way early.
