Need help on a story... |

Alright...I'm writing a story, but I couldn't choose between the two topics. I'm stuck between a devil slayer/devil hunter kind of story or a story
about espionage and that kind of stuff. They both seem like cliche topics, but I want to write them in a way that has lots of plot twists and stuff like that
so it doesn't seem to "been there, done that." Also, I haven't fully developed both ideas yet, so I'm open to suggestions on the plot and
setting and stuff like that. Thanks!

Well, it all depends on what sort of stuff that you'll add to it. Expand on what you would do with each please.

the devil hunter one would have two main settings: a dystopian type of city on earth, and then there would be hell. it would be kind of normal, with action
scenes, a bit of romance, and the major plot twist would be the world being a computer simulation kind of thing. all that stuff would be explained in the end,
and there would be one final climactic battle. it seems kinda boring, but when you add music (i wanna put music in different fight scenes), the cool
descriptions of the characters and settings, the addition of mystical elements (like meditation stuff and chakras), and the final revelations, it isn't
half bad. i'd also expand on the whole computer simulation thing...i'd have to explain that fully.
the espionage one would be the classic set up: around four team members and one group of bad guys. i need to work on the motive of the bad guys for doing the thing that the good guys have to stop. i haven't decided on a cold war setting or a modern setting. there would be a few plot twists like a few betrayals and in the end, the bad guys aren't bad...it was really the organization the good guys worked for that set them up. then the next half of the story would be the good guys and the "bad guys" working together against the organization the good guys used to work for. trust me, the story won't be as confusing as it sounds. but those are my two ideas. they're not complete, but tell me which one you like better. |

forgot to mention that the devil hunter one will also deal with time and other dimensions and all that good stuff...=)

Time and dimensions in relation to the computer simulation, or outside of that? Don't really know whether you want to rewrite the Matrix, but that's it
in a nutshell... o.o I think the more standard good guys vs bad guys might be a better exercise for writing in general - I'm personally more the type who
writes about interpersonal relations and psychological stuff around a more or less 'speculative' background. The background is exactly that - it might
enhance certain things about the relationships but it itself is not necessarly the whole point to the exercise. I'd say don't try and bite off more
than you can chew by introducing too many elements which might cancel out or confuse the reader's perception.

They both sound very, very confusing.
Everything we do is a choice. Oatmeal or cereal, highway or side streets, kiss her or keep her, we make
choices and we live with the consequences. If someone gets hurt along the way we ask for forgiveness, it's the best anyone can do.

I rather like the first one better. With the second one, it's hard to turn it into something that everyone hasn't already heard, but with the first one
I think that you have a lot more that you can do with it. Even if you have a rather common theme, with this one it seems like you can turn it into something
totally unique. Well, I'm not really one for the "espionage" stuff, so... you can partly see why I like the first one better.

Thanks everyone for all their help...however, now I'm stuck with one last problem. What should be the title? I'm open to suggestions for titles of both
ideas, since I might decide to write both...

Ah, mosh. I think that you should write the book first and then see what sort of title fits. That's what I always do anyway. At times some books
are called what they are just because of a particularly poignant (sp?) quote, or something out of one small, but significant part of the story. Best just to
see where it takes you ,I say.

Espionage. The devil one sounds so bloody overdone that I'd rather shoot myself in the foot than read it.
In other news: Anonymouse has 69 posts. Lol. |
