Weeeeelll.... This would be a great opportunity to get a race of mine out of my head and into some vestige of a corporeal form before it vanishes entirely from my imagination. Therefore, I give you:

The Fishkin

The Fishkin are an amphibious race of scaly, slippery creatures who live in the murky confines of Mother Swamp - a bubbling, primordial marsh said to be the origin of all life. Some believe they are the youngest form of intelligent life to have sprung from the swamp's murky depths, based on their proximity to it and their rudimantary civilization.

Fishkin stand roughly four feet tall, and strongly resemble anglerfish-type creatures with scrawny arms and legs, bulbous, glaring eyes, and needle-like teeth. Scale colours range from a dirty yellow-green to a sea-blue, and many Fishkin have mottled patterns on their sides and back. They sport large fin-like crests on their spines, and similar protrusions on their elbows and knees. Their hands are very lightly webbed, and their feet are similar to those of frogs, to enhance their swimming capabilities. They scuttle rather than walk, often using their hands as well as their feet, and remain hunched over at all times. They do not wear clothing, save for ornamental bark talismans and reeds which are tied onto their arms and legs for spiritual purposes.

Fishkin are born from eggs, and young Fishkin - "guppies" as it were - are similar to 6-inch-long tadpoles, with little protrusions that later grow into appendages, and a set of gills. At about three months of age, the Fishkin enter "puberty", taking their first steps out of the slime with their weak arms and legs. Their gills gradually recede, to be replaced with a more amphibious respiratory system, and they spend the rest of their lives outside the water, returning only to hunt and to sleep in moist, shallow pools. They eat smaller fish, aquatic plant life, and large insects like dragonflies, slugs, and mosquitoes.

In terms of culture, Fishkin are a shamanistic sort of race, believing in the supreme power of nature, and especially that of Mother Swamp, their breeding ground and primary "deity". Fishkin see the swamp as an actual matronly figure - nurturing their young and essentially giving birth to their race as a whole - and revere it above all else, carving its likeness in bark tablets and weaving together reed offerings which are cast far out into the waters. They do not build dwellings, for they see no need - Mother Swamp provides them with natural shelter in the form of deep pools where they can hide. They do not use fire.

Fishkin are extremely unfriendly to outsiders, who they see as strange and loathsome and unfit to approach Mother Swamp. They defend their territory fiercely, and will attack intruders and cast them out without provocation. However, they will not kill intruders unless forced to, and when this is necessary they will remove the bodies and leave them as far from Mother Swamp as they dare to go.

...And I can't seem to think of anything else to say about the fishies. If anybody wants to know anything, go ahead and ask - it'll probably remind me of something important I've forgotten to put in.
