So, I thought it might be interesting if we all discussed one of our characters. Just one, any one, any genre or context. It's a chance to air old characters who haven't seen the light for a while, or perhaps get a feel for a new character. Flexing the creative muscle like this is always fun, and can help flesh characters out a little more as well.
Anyway, I'll start the ball rolling.
Introducing Jeralint, the sorcerer.
Physical description: Jeralint is quite tall, say, six foot tall, maybe a little more. He has long brown hair which he keeps tied back in a pony tail and light brown eyes in front of which habitually rest a pair of half moon spectacles. He generally wears open blue robes, similar to a full length cloak, and tidy brown garments beneath. He appears to be around thirty, though in fact his age is likely more than double this.
Short biography: Jeralint is a calm, scholarly man. He spends most of his time immersed in his library further studying the arts of sorcery. Having begun his studies young, he mastered his talents quite early, and like a few other notable magic users was able to hinder (though not halt) progress into old age and prolong youth and longevity. Jeralint is occasionally quick to anger, though always just as quick a thinker. His areas of expertise are the arcane arts, both practical and theoretical, with an impressive knowledge of creatures of magical nature. To this effect, one of his personal works is a bestiary. He also possesses a fair theoretical grasp of alchemy. He has many powerful spells at his disposal and, for example, is capable of turning several people to stone at once. If drawn into a battle, his signature attack involves power that can be described as brilliant blue tongues of flaming lightning. Having power contents Jeralint, he does not constantly lust for more.
History: Apprenticed to an aged wizard at a young age, Jeralint began his studies in magecraft and sorcery at a manor in one of the smaller lordless regions. When his master died, Jeralint stayed on, continuing to improve in his field. By the time he was thirty, he was considerably skilled, and decided to consolidate his power, declaring himself regent of the surrounding lands. At first unwilling to bow to his will, the nearby villages succumbed to his authority, not daring to challenge his power. Satisfied, Jeralint patiently continued his studies, ruling in a rather cold, but far from harsh or unjust manner. Some years following this, he met with a mysterious black haired youth, and the girl who accompanied him. Fascinated by the raw talent that this girl possessed, Jeralint agreed to train her, and grant the boy access to his considerable library. The two stayed on some time, the girl's skills developing steadily, but just as mysteriously as they had come, the two left. Many years passed, and Jeralint slowly found his rule becoming more difficult, as the local populace grew eager for a change. The mysterious black haired boy returned, now a man claiming to be the Overlord of the south, and offered Jeralint a place in his retinue. Jeralint, however, politely refused. Less than a year later, the villagers under his rule rebelled and Jeralint was forced to flee his holding, barely able to salvage a handful of the books in his once great library. Having nowhere else to turn, Jeralint headed south, finding an impressive fortress of black stone hidden far beyond the reach of the Great Kingdoms. There he joined the Overlord's service, and learned of an intricate plan in the works to unite the kingdoms of the land under a central rule. Intrigued, Jeralint eagerly began to help the Overlord of the south in his plans, and swiftly rose to become a trusted member of his inner circle.
Role in his story: Jeralint serves as an advisor to the Overlord character, and also as something of a friend and mentor to the sorceress woman. His knowledge is often called upon to provide interesting solutions to problems, and he is quite senior in rank at the fortress.
Hmm, I think that's enough.
