I happen to not like country and rap... not trying to offend you or anything.

Yeah, but what is it that you don't like about it?

I dunno. Country is alright, I guess, but rap just bothers me.

I find that the reason a lot of people don't like country and rap is because they only hear the inane drivel. If people would listen to the *better*
country and rap, then I think that a lot more people would enjoy it. There's so many sub-genres, so there's usually something that works for the
individual.
Blue Rodeo and Wu-Tang, all the way. |

Alright, but the problem is finding the sub-genre that actually works for you. There is so much of the randomly lame stuff out there that it's hard to find
anything else.

Country is pretty good ... I've got a fair amount on my iTunes. But rap ... no, I just can't stand it, along with hip hop and R&B. Oh, yes, I can
appreciate that rappers are incredibly clever and there's a lot of skill in there.
But I can't listen to it. Everything we do is a choice. Oatmeal or cereal, highway or side streets, kiss her or keep her, we
make choices and we live with the consequences. If someone gets hurt along the way we ask for forgiveness, it's the best anyone can do.

I never said Country was bad, I just said I don't listen to it. The point about rap that Bean just made is seconded btw. There IS some good rap, I'll
admit. For example, Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park. The kids at the back of the bus to college might all hate rap with a vengeance, but it doesn't stop them
learning his lyrics off by heart, lol.

Someone needs to tell me about some good rap so that I can actually listen to it and forget about how much I dislike it. It bugs me as I said, and as I said
people have told me that the good rap isn't listened to. But nobody showed me it.

Righto! My turn. My main musical tastes parallel Boss's* in a lot of ways. Even if I don't listen to them quite so much any more, Masterplan,
Stratovarius, and Sonata Arctica have places in my collection. (I do own a Dragonforce CD for the sheer novelty of how fast it is, but I couldn't get more
into them because I prefer to be able to take my music seriously.) Rhapsody have naturally gradually won me over, certainly I've always respected them for
having such a tight sound. My three favourites however are Nightwish, Kamelot, and the Gathering. I feel the Gathering are a little underrated, they predate
most of the other bands I listen to by over half a decade and are still around today (though, regrettably they did split from their singer last year.)
Personally I think that they were a big influence on the concept of female fronted metal (even if they haven't played "metal" since 1997,) at
least in the Netherlands. (Within Temptation, Autumn, and Epica anyone?) I like heavy music, with a good melody, and a certain amount of depth and, well,
mystique I guess, to it. Poetic lyrics go a good way to winning me over, and powerful singing to deliver them. To put things in boxes, I'd probably say
power/symphonic metal, and a little bit of gothic on the side.
Outside of metal, I like a little bit of Kiwi pop/rock or drum and bass (not much, but I'll occasionally listen to it if it plays,) and I'm a fan of German hard trance act Alphazone. *THUMP THUMP THUMP* The hard, spacey sound of the first 30 Seconds to Mars album is pretty cool too, but I'll be damned if I countenance the emo direction their second album took! Thanks to Boss, I also quite enjoy Abney Park. Granted, what I heard of their latest album disappointed me, but I still want to get The Death of Tragedy! I think that's covered most of my bases. Boss, you didn't mention Ayreon. I find it doubtful that you've never at least heard of it, considering you listed Aina I would have thought it would be right up your alley. *It's possible, however unlikely, that I may one day actually have to stop calling you that. |
