the past, the present, and those darned plurals |

does anyone have advice about handling plural and past-tense words in their generator library? For example, the word "cook" vs. "cooks" or "cooked" are all valid for my purposes, but in theory, how are these things handled by gen developers?

I find it takes some pretty subtle handling. You have to probably keep "sets" of data for one kind of word and its varius tenses and reference that. So you'd have a set for cooking, etc. Then you reference the individual pieces of data depending on context.

Yep, that's what i started doing - but i have since resigned myself to writing code that excludes substrings already present in the phrase (which i had to do anyway to avoid word repetition). But i'm convinced that an easier path exists for those tenses & plurals....

Well for me in my most advanced code (currently not released as it's a bit hard to explain), what i have is sort of a designated "home" piece of data for each activity, and then when that data is accessed it auto-loads appropriate context to other placeholders that are then referenced as appropriate.

Well, I'm not going to ask how you did it especially b/c as a software developer myself (who loves her profession
 ), the fun is in the challenge! But bit by bit (pun intended  ) I will eek out some solution.
