I'm sure we've had this before, but I miss the way this community used to have so many boards about creative things! So what inspires you lately? Events or dreams? Or something a bit more consistent?

Yeah, the Big Crash sorta set stuff back.
I actually get inspiration from books. I buy books at discount book stores for ideas. I also have a lot of occult tomes on symbolism and such, and the connections and ideas help inspire me. "The Magicians Companion" is a giant summary of various occult and symbol systems. It's a WEALTH of ideas. |

I get inspiration from all over the place. Songs, TV, films, other books...
I was reading a book yesterday and it was Christmas in it and it got me in a Christmassy mood (despite it being mid-summer!) so I put on a couple of christmas songs and wrote a few paragraphs from December in one of my novels! |

Excellent!!!
The Magician's Companion sounds like a great book, X, I might have a look for it around here. Thanks! As for me, I love using history as a backdrop and working from there. Additionally, mythology, art and lonely mornins at train stations before the sun is up. And tarot card art. That is superb inspiration! |

Also consider the "Key to It All" which comes in two books, Western and Eastern religion and magic, and possibly "The Book of Magical Names" that looks at name origins, great for ideas.

i wish i knew my muse. i generally sit here listening to music and chatting in several ims to keep myself reasonably distracted so that my ADD doesn't take over. i also get inspiration from dreams, which is annoying because you have to get out of your nice warm bed to jot things down...

Hehe... email troubles... *sigh*
Thanks for the advice, X. The journal article I am supposed to be writing is now on Eastern philosophy... |

Ah, inspiration... let's see... I get a lot of inspiration, story-wise, from news articles, bits of conversations, and the more inexplicable events of world history. Most of my characters come from illustrations, looking up name meanings, and Dreams. For some reason, I can get really cool characters from dreams, but absolutely nothing else... they're too blasted non-linear.
Anyway, for some reason I can only seem to get actual, you know, writing done in the wee hours of the morning whilst suffering from insomnia. Ah, well. |

God is my primary, if not only, inspiration. He inspires me to write, and He inspires me to do whatever else I possibly can as well as I can in a Godly enough manner, though I am not always successful in my attempts to live as I should in my life. Even so, He inspires me to live as Godly as I can in my life. That is all. TUS out.

I let my dreams guide some aspects of inspiration, but many of my dreams use current obsessions (like City of Heroes) kind of override whatever random stuff might come in.
My current primary source of inspiration is my ability to talk to my coworkers. I'm in a room with three very very smart guys - the one's funny because he freely admits to being the 'lowest' on the smarts scale in the room, even though he's a programmer and I can't even imagine doing his job. The things we discuss range from spherical cows (dont' ask) to functional immortality and magical traps. It's a fun job. |
