Gues whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat! I figured out how to win the game! You BUY it. Then nobody can argue. Or you tell people that you are the mysterious owner of the game, and when they ask you how you got it, you can tell them that it;s a deep secret and that if you reveal it,. that would be the end of the game. Really? We usually have some weird abbreviated sticker on the spine of the book, and a whole bunch of random numbers. I wonder... must everything be numbered in this world?

It's basically this, without the nucleus. Canadian libraries stick that on every fantasy and sci-fi book's spine, just so we don't forget that atoms are SCIENCE or something equally bollocks. I always thought it was a bit misleading, but I suppose it makes organization that much easier.

"Stylized Atoms?" what are stylized atoms? But really, most of the time, sci-fi and fantasy are put together in nice little sections, but with sci-fi far outnumbering the fantasy part. And I wasn't saying that each falls into a specific category, really I was talking about the difference between the two, and one can be one and the other can be the other. Really, in my opinion, the genre should depend on what the author wanted for the book, and yeah.

Matter of fact, you can call fantasy sci-fi: libraries often do, for ease of categorization. I'm not saying they're right, per se, but no one seems to be complaining, least of all the authors. I would call Terry Pratchett's Discworld, for instance, a blend of science fiction and fantasy: the setting relies on both making the implausible possible (sci-fi; clacks towers and such), and making the impossible plausible (fantasy; magic, for instance). I think that the real difference between sci-fi and fantasy is that each of them were written to be one or the other. Sci-Fi is sci-fi because that's what the author meant for it be while writing it, and focused their attention on that. Fantasy is fantasy because, again, that's what the author meant it to be, and focused their attention on fantasy, thus making it what they wanted. You can't call a book that was meant to be a fantasy a sci-fi or visa versa- not that any of you...
