Okay, here's my problem: I start writing my undergraduate thesis in a week, or very near to it. (We call it something different at my uni, but,
quintasentally, it's a final thesis.) Since I'm a creative writing major, the deal is that I have to write either a series of short stories, poems, or
a novel. I've settled on the novel. But I can't settle on an idea. I need your opinions on these ideas I do have. Badly.

Option 1:

You could ask him about it if that's the one that you really want to do... But write the Applecore Project one for sure and then send it to me. It sounds
really good!!! The other one sounds great too, but the second is more of what I would read... But then again, the first has a fantastic plot.

Even if you can't write the one about the Applecore Project for your final thesis thingy majig, you still should write it!!!

It's not. That's nowhere close. Cal is related to somebody but it's not Lex, which is fortunate, because he has this vendetta thing against his
family right now.

*sigh* My professor just got back to me with the message that I must choose something I've already turned in a former class to be reworked. I turned in
the story about Lex and Cal at one point, but what I have now is a completely different version and I don't know if it will fly. I really don't...

I like the second for its originality. That's not to say the first isn't creative and unique; I just think the second is more so. That said,
it'll also be a bigger challenge, since you'll be forced to think farther outside the box.
Also, is the story-stopping secret that Lex and Cal are related? Please, tell me that's not it.

If it all comes down to the chance to get something published, then go for whichever one you like the most. Personally I quite like the idea of the second.
I'm a fantasy buff but I do like my sci-fi.

Oooh. Like GSE, I love both ideas and would definitely read a book based on either of them. I also like the seer-as-main-character idea: they're totally
taken for granted in most fantasy.

On a purely personal level, though? The second one is my favorite. I love the worldbuilding opportunities that come up in a future setting and have a really
soft spot in my heart for quirky ensemble shenanigans.

Well, If one of the ideas was better than the other, I could suggest one for you. Sadly, I am having difficulties doing so as both appeal very strongly to me
(I'll read anything, mind you, but if I saw either of these in a bookstore/library, I'd do my best to get my greedy palms on them.)
Anyway, while you seem to think the first one is more stereotypical, it sticks out more. While the idea of a motley crew of space nobodies sounds chawsome in
my book, the bastard son of a...
