Thanks for the input, M'Lady! If I did do it, I would most likely set it in what is basically an alternate-history version of the Arctic and what is now Alaska and the 3 Canadian territories in the 19th century, in which massive gold, diamond, and oil discoveries and nascent heating and extraction technology took settlers and prospectors much further north than was feasible in our version of events. Basically, the Wild North instead of the Wild West, with rogue vigilante gunslingers...

Given that, in a way, we are all plagiarising the dictionary, I don't see a problem merely stealing someone's PLOT. Especially if you change it around a bit. I think you could make a story like that really work very well indeed. And if you write it, I might be persuaded to mirror it with my Dorian Grey/gothic story, even though it is painfully unresolved at present.

You guys, I need advice. I've found another idea for a plot, and I think I could pull it off in a setting I've had kicking around in my head for long enough to make it fairly fleshed out and worthwhile.

The issue is this: I have literally found it. In Lovecraft's diary, no less (it's number eight).

Do I dare nab an unwritten plot from Howie Phil himself? I could...

I won't be able to write anything for ages I don't think. Unless you want to include an essay on laughter in ancient Greece and its place in their agonistic society. I might start once my coursework is finished - two weeks time. I've got two stories in my head which would be suitable: one is a little similar to Dorian Grey, the other is based on a whole lot of research I did a couple of years ago on Sirens.

It's more like an anthology. You can write from a theme if you want, but it's not mandatory.

I've got anywhere from six to ten plots brawling in my head, mixing with each other like a weird sort of yoghurt - but I try to write them and they stolidly refuse to go anywhere near the page. I need electroshock therapy to reopen the bit of my brain I was using to write two years ago; I liked that bit very much and would love to have it back.
