			<description><![CDATA[ I guess not being able to send a gazillion boats filled with heavily armed and equipped soldiery to the lands of the heathen savages had allowed said heathen savages to keep from being overrun by the powers that be in Europa.<br><br>So perhaps the Americas and sub-Saharan Africa might just stay in native hands? An island wouldn't be able to generate enough of a pull on its underside, but a continent could.<br><br>Or, heck, this is steampunk, right?  Perhaps there's a mystical glowing rock called &quot;Gravitite&quot; that generates an artificial gravitational field.
