Now, this is something I've been pondering as of late; the concept of a soundtrack to accompany real life. Often, during any scenario in my life, I'll find myself humming a tune that fits the mood perfectly; and I'll no doubt have something from a soundtrack on my phone to play to add to the decor.

I'm wondering now if anyone else does this; and also, a second thing I've found myself doing lately: using music as a direct inspiration for writing.

Without directly using any generator. You may, however, take a result from a generator and build/alter it. Detailed, of course, along with both abilities/capabilities and weaknesses. Non-standard (ie. no the obvious stuffs we see like vampires/werewolves/kitsune/mutated humans/chimeras unless it's doesn't resembles the usual) and Magic, Sci-Fi, Supernatural sorts only (no fantasy-esque).

P.S. No 'good alignment' sorts either. ^^ aka no hero-friendly sorts.

Anyone seen Avatar, or going to see it? It has the biggest budget for a film ever and the trailer looks spectacular. I read a review that said it was horribly written, far too long but completely and utterly worth it. It does look good...

A Poetic Commitment

I've never been exceptionally organised, but to keep myself going creatively during what was an exceptionally rough year I did the unthinkable and committed myself to writing a blog. I've kept it going for over two months now, and while some of it is quite shabby, there are a few posts that I am quite proud of, especially my more recent efforts.

In any case, if you have time to kill and want to read some amateur poetry/rants/miscellanea, perhaps you'll have a look....

Namely, has the time arrived for Datesims in the US culture?

Datesims have a rather creepy reputation in the US. The ones we see from Japan often contain questionable content. By questionable of course I mean soul-searing horror that would make Cthulu call for his mommy and curl up in a blanket. Yes I know there are Datesims...

International Pretend You're a Time Traveler Day 2009

Today (or yesterday as it's now ten past one in the morning, tomorrow) was December 8th. Also known as International Pretend You're a Time Traveler Day, at least by Dresden Codak standards.

Today, two people walked around Greenwich dressed outlandishly and saying unbelievable things.

I was one of those two people. I was a time cop, and a friend from my filmmaking class dressed as an escaped fugitive from the future.

Here's an excerpt from my current project- the thing that started as my NaNo. Not sure this bit's gonna get into the story, actually, since it's a bit info-dumpy and I don't know where I'd put it, but its a nice introduction to the world and stuff.

This post, both at Fan To Pro and Seventh Sanctum discusses how artists aren't appreciated. One poster noted that he prefers the term illustrator, which made me think.

What DO you call artists as a term of respect. I can agree at times the term 'artist' is a mix of grab-bag and at times can be taken as neutral at best, so what do you say?

Help with Demonymy

So, want a bit of advice about something in my current main project. It used to be my NaNo, but I'm hoping to get it done by New Years now.

Anyway, the story's set in a country called Bracken, and I've been using 'Brackenly' as both adjective and demonym, right?
And as an adjective, Brackenly is fine- it has a nice witchy vibe to it that fits the story, like leafless branches stepped on and crushed at an inopportune...

Hey everyone!
Congratulations to Wolfgang (you know, every time I type your screen name I have to stop myself writing "Boss") on hitting 50k! Who else managed to rake in a win this year? (Actually, I suppose November isn't quite over in some parts of the world, so best of luck for the final few hours if anyone's still going!)
